Want to know you can turn off comments on your Google Business Profile? In almost all cases, the answer is no. Unfortunately, you’re going to have to deal with the system Google created. However, in rare cases, Google occasionally removes reviews or turns off the ability to leave reviews on listings. That’s it.

Certain categories can automatically turn off reviews on Google. These include the following categories school or tutor. Google isn’t always consistent on this matter. However, almost every other listing has comments turned on by default.

2. Google will shut down comments on listings facing negative review attacks

If you’re being targeted by fake negative reviews, there may be other steps you can take. Google Business Profiles can prevent new reviews from being retained for a period of time. I only see this when both of the following things are true:

  • You have recently left a large number of negative comments in a short period of time.
  • You have a scandal reported in the media, or you have evidence (such as emails or text messages) that someone is threatening your business and claiming they will leave you a ton of negative reviews as punishment for something.

For example, this business is Recently exposed She received negative comments after a post on Facebook went viral. Comments on their profile are currently disabled, so users cannot leave new comments.

Here’s how to delete Google business reviews

Removing comments from GBP can be quite difficult. In fact, comments will only be deleted if: Violated one of the specific guidelines List:

  • Spam and fake content
  • irrelevant
  • Restricted content
  • illegal content
  • Horror content
  • Sexually explicit content
  • offensive content
  • Dangerous and derogatory content
  • Impersonate
  • conflict of interest

Google Business Profile Choose not to take responsibility for handling comments and declare:

“When merchants and customers disagree about the facts, Google doesn’t get involved because there’s no reliable way to tell who’s right about a particular customer experience.”

Reviews that you consider to be obviously fake may not violate the GBP Guidelines and therefore will not be removed.

To try to get Google to take action on a review that you think violates one of its guidelines, you can:

  1. Flag comments for deletion from your account. You can do this by opening the Comments tab in your GBP dashboard, finding the comment you want to delete, and clicking on the three little dots in the top right corner of the comment. ‘Report review’ Will appear. Click it and select the guideline that this review violates from the list.
  2. Wait three days (Google won’t do anything until then) and if Google refuses to remove the review, you can try reporting it using their reports Comment removal tool
    1. To use this tool, you can use the Manage your Google Business Reviews link – https://support.google.com/business/workflow/9945796?authuser=1
    2. Verify your business account and select the list you want to remove comments from
    3. The next option you see will ask you if you want to “Report a new comment for deletion” or “Check the status of my reported comments and my appeal options.” If this is your first time submitting this request, you will select “Report new comment for removal.”
    4. You will then see a list of all comments; there will be an option to “Report Comment Link” in the last column on the right. Click the “Report” link next to the comment that you believe violates Google’s guidelines.
    5. You will then see the following screen, select the appropriate category and select “Submit”.
    6. Return to the previous screen and close the request.
  3. After submitting your request, you need to wait three more days and then check the status of your request.
    1. To do this, you’ll need to return to the tool and select “Check the status of my reported review and my appeal options.”
    2. The next screen will tell you whether your deletion request has been deleted, whether a decision is pending, or whether it has been denied.
    3. If your removal is denied, you will have the option to “Appeal eligible comments.” Please select this option if you wish to appeal.
      1. During the appeals process, you have the option to support your case and explain why you believe this review violated Google’s Guidelines. At this point, you will need to gather documentation about the review, the reviewer, any supporting or assertive documents, previous cases you may have submitted regarding the issue, or any other relevant documentation you think may be relevant to your issue. Put all this information into a Google Doc (if you prefer) or spell it all out to Google on the next screen. Remember, you only have one chance to appeal your review, so make sure your information is complete.
      2. Click submit
      3. From that point on, you need to wait another 3 days before making a decision
  4. If your appeal is denied, your only option is to submit your case to the Google Support Forum, where you can have a product specialist escalate the issue to Google Support. However, you won’t be able to delete your review if Google Support doesn’t believe it violates any of our guidelines.
