Objectives and Key Results (OKR) are a popular goal-setting framework. It helps SEOs define and measure the SEO success of their projects, teams, and individuals.

Goals should be clearly defined. Some people like the SMART framework to ensure their goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. The key result is how you track progress towards your goals.

Goals are usually set at several levels. You typically have company, team, and personal goals. You generally want to align any OKRs with company goals, I also like to align search engine optimization strategy I know it has value and makes an impact.

Let’s look at some examples of SEO OKRs.

Many general SEO OKRs revolve around awareness, reporting, and proving the value of SEO.

Goal: Increase organizational awareness and support for SEO

Goal: Unify brand experience

  • Key result 1: Define SEO best practices for the unified design system over the next two months.
  • Key result 2: Consolidate content into a major content management system over the next year.
  • Main result 3: Migrate three acquisitions to the main website each quarter while maintaining traffic levels.

Goal: Improve SEO reporting to help make data-driven decisions

  • Key result 1: Build a competitor scorecard to measure yourself against your competitors.
