Today, I think… in a second…I need to check the email on my phone…almost done…now, where am I? Oh yes, I’m saying… stick with… just received a text message… now type my reply… add bitmoji… hit send. OK, where are we?
While multitasking doesn’t seem so sudden and annoying during daily interactions, please don’t get me wrong…yes! Research shows that people check their smartphones every 6½ minutes or once a day on average. This constant back and forth between such tasks has become the norm and is regarded by many as a symbol of prolific people. It’s not. Data show that when people switch between tasks, they take up to 30% of the time to complete them and make twice as much mistake as not switching.
One solution for multitasking is to interpret uninterrupted blocks of time in your timeline. “The key to time management is to take the time to think rather than constantly reacting. If you don’t take the time to think positively, you will be constantly reacting to your environment rather than impacting it,” said Jeff Weiner, CEO of LinkedIn.
