Dry skin triggers this eight-figure men’s skin care brand

The opinions expressed by entrepreneurs and contributors are their own.

When Jared Pobre and his wife, former WWE star Stacy Keibler, moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, he expected more time, skiing, hiking, fly fishing. What he experienced was how extreme conditions accelerate skin aging and damage, making his skin grow and red. Not only are the choices limited, but nothing seems to help when looking for solutions for his skin care. Out of frustration, he tried one of Keibler’s expensive serums.

“In a week, it cleaned up everything.” “That was when I asked myself why men don’t have such a thing?”

Pobre is Crater + Laboratorya high-performance skin care brand that helps men take positive skin health approaches. The company launches its first Skin products In 2019, a serum called good, This quickly became a national bestseller. Originally to create an effective, science-backed mission of male skin care, it has since grown into a profitable eight-figure business and stays true to its followers. Caldera + Lab now offers a full range of products including cleansers, moisturizers, serums, eye care, sunscreen and hair care.

In the male category, “innovative skin care” sounds like paradoxical, and Pobre hopes to build some of the same ingredients and scientific approaches as brands like leading women like Estée Lauder and L’Orrel. What is needed to get there is more than surface level repair required, it requires investment in clinical research, sourcing high-performance ingredients and formulating them accurately.

Dig into details

After Pobre’s AHA moment, he began to look at what might make men’s brand unique. He is the CEO of Ad Tech who built a nine-digit company from scratch and knows how to spot market gaps and see one in front of him. In Jackson Hole, he isn’t the only man who stole his wife’s skin care products. The extreme climate in the region makes the impact on male skin care more obvious and urgent, but even in Wyoming, the challenges facing men’s skin are sometimes not obvious but equally harmful

“I found other men in Jackson Hole to buy $185 serum for women, just like me,” he recalls. “These are solid guys, not the type you expect to use high-end serums. I knew then there was a real customer here.”

Pobre met with botanists and ethnobotanists to learn how indigenous people in the region use local plants such as Fireweedeed, Yarrow and Nettle for hundreds of years. These “survivor plants” endure frozen winters and harsh elevations by producing unusually high antioxidants. He realized that this toughness could be translated into skin care products.

Build a brand

There are some real ideas to name the brand. Eventually, Pobre landed on Caldera + Lab, a tribute to the Yellowstone crater and the science behind the product formula. The visual design is both modern and rural, reflecting Jackson Hole’s unique identity, where urban glitz-like people fantasize about their outdoor fantasies.

“This balance – Jackson’s patience in his career in the city is everything we’re trying to capture,” Bobray said.

Find customers

The real test has arrived good Go to the market. Proactively steadily, Pobre ordered him to use the smallest production batch (10,000 units) to launch a new brand in an unproven category with the risk. To his surprise, by the end of the first year, he was already reordering and growing momentum.

Much of the traction comes from social media ads that draw customers to a clean, simple landing page. “The belief given to us is when the guys start asking for more,” Bobre said. “They want a cleanser, moisturizer, SPF. I knew then that’s not just me. There’s a real market here.”

Lessons from mistakes

Caldera + lab path isn’t perfect. Early marketing agencies failed to deliver. Brand identity work delayed as he pieced it together through multiple companies. But those bumps became lessons.

“In every company I build, I understand that shortcuts don’t pay off,” Pobre said. “Whether it’s product development, marketing, or recruitment, you have to do the hard work.”

Eventually, he pulled all marketing internally, a decision that reshapeds the business.

Expand vision

This week, Caldera+ Labs launched two new products: Great, an anti-aging serum and an anti-aging moisturizer, The Hydro layer. Pobre sees it as the next frontier: not only the formula with clean ingredients, but the science built specifically for male skin.

“It all started with the serum of my wife I borrowed from Jackson,” he said. “I’m still as curious and firm as well-like that day.”
