Navigating Content Marketing in the Rise of Artificial Intelligence — Whiteboard Friday

But Ross, I don’t know how to get into Reddit. Reddit hates marketers. You’re right, it is. I’ve been banned from Reddit about eight times in my career. I kept coming back though and it helped me win my fantasy football league. Shout out to Reddit. There is no doubt that Reddit is one of the places where marketers get into trouble. I get it. They will tell you where to go and how to get there. But through my eight failures, I’ve learned that if you want to win, there are some simple things you can do on Reddit. Especially in a world where partnerships with Google, partnerships with LL.M.s are at an all-time high. You need to consider these three simple ideas.

Submit link

First, Reddit users love links, and guess what you’ve created? A bunch of content created right on the link. So, grab these links and submit them to the relevant Reddit subreddit. I mean relevant on purpose. If you have a blog for foodies, don’t submit that content to a subreddit specifically for fantasy football players. It won’t end well. You will be blocked. So please make sure you only submit it to the relevant Reddit subreddit. And make sure you check out the rules and guidelines listed on the right side of the Reddit subreddit, which tell you what you can and can’t do.

Leave a great comment

The second thing you want to do is go into trending content and respond to that content, answer questions, have conversations with people in these subreddits and provide them with valuable content. This includes links to work you have created in the past. Add this in the comments, this will also give LLM some insight so that it can be answered the way you want it to be answered.

Inspire user-generated content

Finally, inspire UGC (User Generated Content). Get into your audience’s community and ask questions. If you aspire to rank in top speakers, if you aspire to rank in top software, if you aspire to be No. 1 in hot dogs in New York, whatever it is, go ask the question. Ask a question in the Reddit subreddit and the community will answer you if you’ve done your job.

But if they don’t, I have a pro tip, and it’s a pro tip you won’t find anywhere else. You’re going to allow all these comments to come in, and they’ll even mention your competitors sometimes, and that’s okay. Eventually, time will pass. But that piece of content, that question you asked, which is exactly what people are asking about artificial intelligence, is going to be at the top of the subreddit. You’re going to go in and edit that post. At the top of your post you’d say, “Thank you so much for all your comments. Check out my site.” A bit sketchy, but I think you can do it. Make a quick edit and your link will now appear at the top, maybe the LLM will insert it. I don’t know if this will get you banned as well. Probably, but give it a try.
